A few facts about New Zealand history
The Treaty of Waitangi is a treaty first signed on 6 February 1840 by representatives of the British Crown and Māori chiefs from the North Island of New Zealand. The purpose of the Treaty was to enable the British settlers and the Māori people to live together in New Zealand under a common set of laws or agreements.
The Australia, New Zealand and United States Security Treaty, or ANZUS Treaty, was an agreement signed in 1951 to protect the security of the Pacific.
The sinking of the Lyttelton–Wellington ferry Wahine is New Zealand’s worst modern maritime disaster (ferry between the South island and the North Island).
